The Sun enters Aries and briefly travels across the earth's equator on Sunday, March 20, 2011. This may not be the usual renewal of the zodiacal year.

The Sun follows Uranus into Aries and commences the renewal of the cycle of the zodiac, and the rebirth of life. But this may be one of the oddest springs in memory due to the Sun’s immediate conjunction with Uranus; the planet of unorthodoxy and revolution.

The same can be said of the beginning of the cycle of the Zodiac. As we embark on a new journey from Aries to Pisces, from the birth of new life (spring) to the death and dissolution of the cycle of life (winter), we may feel as though we’ve been through it twice over this next year.

Ostara 2011: Planets in Aries

Blizzards, hottest temperatures on record, and unusual weather patterns could be quite characteristic of this spring. We’ve already witnessed such tragedy and catastrophe in the East and the Middle East. The Sun’s energy in Aries will only bolster the already gale-force tides.

There is much fire energy combusting all about the unconscious collective field; focused and projected through the four planets in Aries: Sun, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mercury. Jupiter tends to magnify events and occurrences, where Mercury is responsible for the promulgation and broadcasting of a huge volume of information. Uranus tends to destroy things in hot flashes. (Note: Uranium and fire are at the core of the current disaster in Japan.)

The Sun, in Aries, will act much like a 10,000-watt transmitter, boosting fire energy throughout the collective unconscious. It might not be uncommon for those to suffer nightmares and anxiety although they are thousands of miles (literally and figuratively) removed from the “ground zeros” of crisis and tragedy.

The Moon, the Equinoxes, and the Solstice

The moon has played a significant role in the last six months, beginning with a full moon during the Autumnal Equinox, known in pre-Christian mythology as Mabon. This was a powerful Fire / Air combination with the moon in Aries and the Sun entering Libra; signifying the spark will set to flame for the issues of fairness and equality.

Then, for the first time since 1638, humanity witnessed a lunar eclipse on the Winter Solstice, known as Yule. Here we witnessed a strong Earth/Water relationship with the Sun entering Capricorn, and the Moon in Cancer. The blood red moon rose on the darkest and longest night of the year, much like a medieval harbinger of doom.

Now, a full moon will precede Ostara (Vernal Equinox), emphasizing a cyclical and mirror image of the Fire/Air combination with the Sun in Aries and the Moon in Libra. This is a precise reversal of elemental energy of Mabon (Autumnal Equinox). Yet, when the moon is actually in direct opposition of the Sun, the moon is actually in Virgo and the Sun is still in Pisces: aligning with the Earth/Water cycle seen during the lunar eclipse of Yule (Winter Solstice).

The Sun, The Moon, and The Vernal Equinox

These salient astrological events coinciding with such important milestones of the Sun’s journey across the sky would resound as ominous portents in the ancient world. Today they can be scientifically reasoned and mathematically deciphered, but the underlying message and energetic correspondence with the heart and the mind cannot be elucidated by science, math, or philosophy.

The precision of the elemental balances, and the amplification of the full moon speak of unconscious shifts in thought and emotion. There are great tides ebbing and flowing, caught between the gravitational and magnetic fields of the Sun (Yang) and the moon (Yin).

Go outside during the afternoon of March 19th, at approximately 2:00PM EDT, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Envision standing at a point between the sun and the moon. Feel the push and pull between Yang and Yin, between Earth and Water, and between Fire and Air. Realize all the elements are at play in the world, and within you.
